Union News
The Employee Free Choice Act was recently passed by the House of Representatives. This legislation is vital to ensuring workers have a level playing field to decide whether to form a union -- and to do so free from employer intimidation. The New York Times wrote an editorial in support of the Employee Free Choice Act on March 6, 2007. You can also check out more information about the legislation at the AFL-CIO's Web site.
The San Francisco Labor Council worked with Supervisor Tom Ammiano for over year on his groundbreaking universal healthcare legislation. In late July it was passed out of the Board of Supervisors with unanimous support! The Mayor signs this landmark legislation into law on Monday, August 7th. The San Francisco Healthcare Security Ordinance is cutting edge universal healthcare reform that will serve as a model for the nation. The press have been covering this story for some time now.
