The San Francisco Labor Council is the local body of the AFL-CIO. We are a nonprofit membership organization and serve as headquarters to the Labor Community in San Francisco. The SFLC represents more than 100,000 union members and their families who belong to over 150 affiliate unions.

The mission of the SFLC is to improve the lives of workers, their families and our community -- to bring economic justice to the workplace and social justice to the nation. To accomplish this mission the SFLC works to build worker power through political education and action, economic development in San Francisco, union organizing, community service and job training, and educational programs for the community.

As part of a national AFL-CIO campaign to dog McCain, the SFLC and union members came out to protest John McCain's policies at his fundraiser in San Francisco. Teamsters President James Hoffa was in San Francisco, with the support of Mayor Newsom, Senator Boxer, and Barak Obama, to urge United mechanics to vote in favor of joining the Teamsters Union. Read the Chronicle story here.
